The UK's Product Recall System
The UK and the EU has some of the most robust consumer product safety legislation in the world. So why then do we continue to read press reports of things going wrong? Some consumers and businesses have said they feel they don't have enough knowledge about product recalls or view them as burdensome. Experiences such as these could threaten the effectiveness of the UK product recall system.
The Lynn Faulds Wood Review
In March 2015 the then government announced an independent review led by Lynn Faulds Wood, broadcaster and leading consumer rights campaigner. Lynn is well known as a journalist with a long broadcasting career that dates back to the 1980s, including presenting the TV consumer programme 'Watchdog' for many years. During the course of her review Lynn engaged with a great number of organisations and individuals, attended seminars and led stakeholder events to discuss the questions posed in the initial recall review questionnaire.
We have greatly enjoyed working with someone as enthusiastic and passionate about product safety as Lynn, who has brought real experience and insight to this important work.
Lynn has completed her review and submitted her recommendations to government. We anticipate the upcoming publication of her review to be the first step in our firm commitment to improving the UK recall system to better protect consumers and support good business practices.
